This is a special type of procedure that it takes one visit and involves:
  • removing the damaged tooth or its root
  • implantation of the implant in its place
  • temporary crown adjustment
This procedure is fully compliant with the latest knowledge and research carried out over several years. When properly conducted it enhances the final cosmetic effect and immediately restores the missing teeth, eliminating the time during which a patient has a gap in their dentition.

The success of this particular type of treatment requires a very careful assessment of every single case and is subject to several strict requirements. As a result, this treatment cannot be applied to all patients. Even though some of them could have an implant inserted but still the procedure of immediate crown adjustment may be inadvisable. Of course, in such situations the alternative procedures filling the gap are carried out.

Our patient has broken a tooth (left central incisor) - the whole crown broke deep under the gum line and only its root has been left on its place. Yet, the tooth remained at its place and looked as usual. In such a case the filling or porcelain crown procedure is inappropriate. Of course, one may try to apply these treatments, but in accordance with most recent knowledge it leads to various complications such as periodontal inflammation or refracture of the restored tooth. Subsequent complications also cause the destruction of the entire structure of bones and tissues. Finally, this makes the prognosis for implant procedures less advantageous.

Therefore, it has been the best moment to carry out the immediate implant procedure as the patient met all the requirements for it. The black and white photo shows the moment right after pulling the broken tooth crown out and the yellow line contours the root surface. Later, after pulling out the entire root, an implant is placed and the procedure ends with attaching the temporary crown. In this particular case the broken tooth has been used as the replacement. White stitches between the central incisors are the only mark usually visible after the operation apart from a slight swelling and almost no pain. After 6-month healing period the final part of the treatment is carried out.

Remember, if your healthy tooth has been broken as a result of some injury, do not throw it away!

Remaining tooth crown should be kept in a clean container with a physiological saline solution available at any pharmacy.
