Rebuilding teeth with a crown is most often advised in the following cases:
  • the tooth is damaged too much to make simple rebuilding procedure possible
  • the tooth is discoloured (darkened)
  • the tooth has been completely broken and only its root is left - as in the photos given (in such cases to strengthen the tooth we advise the post crown treatment).
A crown takes usually two or three visits because of the need to remove most of the outer surface of the tooth. Patients are given a temporary crown that is fitted during the first visit, which greatly improves their appearance and maintains their self-confidence.

Crowns easily imitate various shades of teeth, stains and enamel fractures closely replicating the lifelike look of the natural toothing.

The patient had broken their tooth at a gum level so that only the root has left. In such a case the procedure is, as follows: at first, the tooth needs root canal treatment and then the inlay crown is prepared which enhances the broken tooth. The inlay crown is fixed inside the root thus rebuilding the broken crown part. This can now be polished and made ready for the future porcelain crown. During the last appointment the crown is cemented.

This solution has its limitations. If the fracture line has certain features, eg. it's too deep or it's an oblique fracture, reconstruction of such a tooth may be difficult or even impossible for technical, mechanical or physiological reasons, causing inflammation of the surrounding tissues. In such a situation the solution can then be to remove the remaining root and choose the immediate implant or a porcelain bridge treatment.
